For over three centuries, an unusual round hill in the Lowcountry of South Carolina has carried the name "Pompion Hill." The spectacular view it provides of the sparkling waters of the East Branch of the Cooper River captured the hearts of a wealthy French Huguenot and his family in the 1600s. Today, Pompion Hill is part of Longwood Plantation, and remains much the same as when Pierre de St. Julien de Malacare fell in love with the pristine property.
